Minnesota Cold Classic on Deck for Gophers

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track & field program hosts the inaugural Minnesota Cold Classic on Friday, Feb. 21 at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on campus. Field events are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT with competition on the track set to begin at 3:00 p.m. CT.
Additionally, a small contingency of Gophers will head to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 22 with Shane Streich, Elliott Davis, Dawson LaRance and Owen Hoeft slated to compete in the men's distance medley relay on Saturday morning.
Gophers in the National Rankings
With less than a month to go until the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, the University of Minnesota track & field program finds itself in both the men's and women's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCCA) national rankings while the Maroon & Gold have posted a total of 22 marks that rank among the top-25 nationally. On the women's side, the Gophers sit at No. 20 in the USTFCCCA's NCAA Division I Women's Track & Field Rating Index (Week 4) with 11 performances among the top-25 in the nation this year. On the men's side, the Gophers are ranked No. 23 in the USTFCCCA's NCAA Division I Men's Track & Field Rating Index (Week 4) with 11 performances among the top-25 in the nation this year.
Senior Celebration Set for Saturday
The University of Minnesota will honor 39 student-athletes on Friday evening at the inaugural Minnesota Cold Classic as the 2020 senior class competes for the final time at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
Track & Field Captains
On the men's side, Alec Basten, Kieran McKeag, Jackson Wellenstein, Teddy Frid, and Jonathan Tharaldsen will lead the squad in 2020 while Rachel Schow, Ayesha Champagnie, Erin Huls, Abby Kohut-Jackson, Ryan Crotty, and Val Larson will serve as captains on the women's side.

The Maroon & Gold continue the indoor campaign next weekend at the 2020 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 28-29) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Next Home Meet: Brave Like Gabe Twilight
With Minnesota's three home indoor meets in the books after this weekend, the next opportunity to see the Maroon & Gold on campus will come in the outdoor season when the Gophers hose the inaugural Brave Like Gabe Twilight at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on Wednesday, April 22.
