BORDERS (OF THE HUMAN): A Winton Chair Cornerstone Event
October 10 to October 12, 2016 • Presented as part of the Winton Chair Cornerstone Event Series

Professors NAOKI SAKAI and SANDRO MEZZADRA will engage in a three-day discussion with the University of Minnesota and larger Twin Cities communities on topics ranging from the politics of bordering and migration, humanism, theories of translation, and labor in contemporary capitalism to nationalism, racism, and anthropological difference under postcolonial and neocolonial conditions. Events include individual reading seminars with each professor and a large roundtable with two talks and a discussion.

Naoki Sakai is Goldwin Smith Professor of Asian Studies in the Departments of Comparative Literature and Asian Studies, also in the graduate fields of History and of Feminism, Gender and Sexuality Studies, at Cornell University.

Sandro Mezzadra teaches political theory at the University of Bologna and is adjunct fellow at the Institute for Culture and Society of the University of Western Sydney. He is currently visiting research fellow at the Humboldt University, Berlin (BIM – Berliner Institut für empirische Migrations- und Integrationsforschung).

Reading Groups & Seminars
On Thursday October 6, 2016, from 2-4pm in Nolte Center 125, we will convene to discuss work written or selected by Naoki Sakai and Sandro Mezzadra. These works will serve as the basis of discussion for the seminars with each Cornerstone Visitor. To participate, contact Travis Workman and Lorenzo Fabbri (tworkman@umn.edu and lfabbri@umn.edu).
