This continuing education program focuses on the improvement of maternal and infant health through the delivery of risk-appropriate high-quality nutrition services.

The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to:

  1. describe ways that nutrition programs and services can improve maternal, fetal and child health outcomes;
  2. discuss the effects of maternal and child eating behaviors and patterns on birth outcomes, infant and child health and development; and
  3. identify characteristics of effective programs, services, outreach, research and evaluation needed to improve maternal, infant and child health, nutrition and food security.

Who Should Attend

This continuing education program is designed for dietitians, nutritionists, certified nurse midwives, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, physicians and public health professionals who serve preconceptual, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, children and families.

A Multilevel Approach to Improving Breastfeeding Practices

Presented by: Junia N. de Brito, PhD, MPH, MBA
Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, University of Minnesota

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. identify multilevel barriers that hinder or promote breastfeeding initiation and continuation.
  2. articulate how removing structural, interpersonal, and institutional barriers can improve breastfeeding outcomes and reduce disparities.
  3. propose evidence-based strategies to reduce barriers to breastfeeding and improve access and support for disproportionately affected populations.

GLP-1 Medication Use in Adolescents

    1. describe which GLP-1 receptor agonist medications are FDA-approved for treatment of obesity in adolescents.
    2. understand key aspects of counseling adolescents starting GLP-1 RA medications.
    3. provide anticipatory guidance on side effects of medications and nutritional recommendations to mitigate side effects.
    4. anticipate challenges to cost and access to GLP-1 RA medications.
