PAULINE OLIVEROS: A Winton Chair Cornerstone Event
September 28 to 30, 2016 ‌• Presented as part of the Winton Chair Cornerstone Event Series

Composer, humanitarian, performer, and one of modern music’s most important figures, PAULINE OLIVEROS has influenced contemporary American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth, ritual, and the founding of "Deep Listening."

In this Winton Chair Cornerstone Event, Oliveros will lead Deep Listening workshops on Wednesday, September 28th, and Thursday, September 29th, and will present a participatory performance on Friday September 30th. Student-led creative groups exploring and engaging in improvisation, meditation, interdisciplinary collaborations, and healing will convene in preparation for Oliveros's campus visit.

Student-Led Creative Groups
Prior to September 28, student-led creative groups will convene to explore and engage in improvisation, meditation, interdisciplinary collaborations, and healing. Creative group themes, leaders, dates, and locations will be announced soon. To hear more about these groups, please indicate your interest below.

LOVE, LOSS & LISTENING

This meditation is deep listening within a communal conversation context. The flow starts with a reading around loss/love, then flow into a 20 minute meditation (silent observation of breath with very subtle ambient sound), then flow into a 20 minute conversation around love and loss (this conversation would be done in darkness/blindfolded), then flow into another 10 minute meditation, and the remaining amount of time would be returning to our sight and being in each others presence, then a closing.

Participatory Workshops led by Pauline Oliveros (Sept 28 and Sept 29)
Pauline Oliveros will lead two Deep Listening workshops on Wednesday, September 28, and Thursday, September 29, both from 2pm-4pm in the Beacon Room in the Recreation and Wellness Center on the University of Minnesota campus. The work from these workshops will contribute to the form of the Participatory Performance on Friday September 30.

Registration is free but highly encouraged, as the number of spaces per workshop is limited to 30 people per session.
Participatory Performance with Pauline Oliveros (Sept 30)
Pauline Oliveros will lead a participatory performance at 7pm on Friday, September 30, in the Best Buy Theater of Northrop.

Tickets will be free and open to the public. Seating will be General Admission.
