Day 6: Tunapenda Lutangilo (We like Lutangilo!)

As we arrived in Lutangilo for our tour of their school, dispensary, and chemistry and physics lab, we were treated to a very fun surprise greeting from some villagers. They even got us to participate!

Day 5: Mambo! (What’s up!)

After another wonderful omelet breakfast, we headed straight to the beautiful village of Mlangali, where we were able to observe some of the challenges and design changes to the construction of Mlangali's new water system.

Day 4: Habari za asubuhi! (Good morning!)

Today, we learned some Swahili, met with the water committee to learn about the water distribution system in Ihemi village, and collected water samples to analyze in the lab.

Day 3: Heri Ya Mwaka Mpya! (Happy New Year!)

We began the new year learning about the rural village of Iringa, analyzing a gravity-fed water distribution system, and topping off our day with dinner at a beautiful restaurant with an amazing view of the city.

Day 2: Habari za jioni! (Good evening!)

We spotted several animals on our long bus ride and arrived in Iringa where we enjoyed good food and hospitality, as well as beautiful scenery.

Day 1: Mchana mzuri! (Good afternoon!)

On our first day in Tanzania, we made our first attempts to speak Swahili, visited Trans Africa Water to learn about water pumps, visited the markets for some souvenirs, and enjoyed good food with new friends.

Design for Life: Water in Tanzania

Access to reliable clean water is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. The College of Science and Engineering is offering a global seminar experience that will bring a group of students to Tanzania during winter break 2017-18. Students will get a hands-on engineering challenge with real-world impact.
