2019 Weisguide Class Application
Discover, Connect, Engage—Become a WEISGUIDE

DISCOVER amazing works of art
CONNECT with artists, curators, and peers
ENGAGE in conversation with people in our community

WAM’s volunteer tour guides play a pivotal role in the museum, sharing their passion for art with visitors of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to connecting people with meaningful artistic experiences in the galleries, WEISGUIDES get exclusive access to exhibitions and artists, and learn about art through interactive gallery experiences, hands-on activities, field trips, and social gatherings.

The program is flexible, fun, and essential to WAM's mission, as WEISGUIDES directly serve the community, making our collection accessible to all. No specific art background is required; instead, we are looking for people who are:
+ Enthusiastic about working with young visitors, families, and visitors with disabilities.
+ Comfortable speaking in front of groups and handling the unexpected.
+ Eager to dedicate time to research and training related to exhibitions and in-gallery activities.
+ Willing to contribute at least 1-4 hours of gallery tours per month.
+ Available to lead tours during museum hours (T, Th, F – 10–5 p.m. / W – 10–8 p.m. / Sa and Su – 11–5 p.m.)

CLASS DETAILS
The next training class will start Fall 2019. Specific dates and times are to be determined. The nine-month training course provides a survey of our collection and teaches you how to conduct inquiry-based, participatory tours of the museum and special exhibitions. Assignments include readings, oral presentations, and preparation time outside of class. After this initial course, WEISGUIDES are expected to participate in monthly trainings held on Tuesdays from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., where you’ll explore artworks, art histories, conversation strategies, and a whole lot more.

Thank you for your interest in this unique opportunity, where you’ll be able to both teach and learn in this one-of-a-kind, exploratory environment!
