Research Help

Students, staff, and faculty consult with librarians on their research. You might reach out to a librarian when...

  • you’re not sure how to get started with a research project
  • you hit a wall in your research
  • your usual process isn't working for a particular project
  • you want to learn about new tools and strategies to aid your research

Chat

Do you need help with your research right away? Chat is the fastest way to reach a librarian. You can chat 24/7 - depending on the time of day, you might chat with a UMD librarian or a librarian from another university. If your browser does not display the chat tab on the right-hand side, try this chat widget.

Schedule an Appointment

Want to meet with someone about your research question? Schedule an appointment with a subject librarian if you want to talk about a project in depth. Our librarians have different specialties in subjects such as business, sciences, or social work, and their expertise can match you up with the right tools and resources relevant to your area of interest.

Email / Phone

You can email a librarian at [email protected] or call 218-726-8100.

Guides

See our research guides organized by subject to find links to relevant tools and research tips.

Drop-In

We recommend chatting with a librarian or scheduling an appointment as the best ways to get support with your research. Librarians are available for drop-in research help during these hours. Staff members at our first floor Library Services desk can help put you in touch with a librarian.
