TOWARD THE

CLINICAL TRANSLATION

OF

ULTRA-HIGH FIELD MRI

A conference organized by the University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research

Overview

The continued development and availability of ultra-high field MRI systems along with recent FDA approval of 7T for head and knee imaging, creates the timely opportunity for a discussion among imaging centers about how this technology can positively impact clinical care. Identifying key clinical applications and developing workflows to integrate sometimes complex methods into the mainstream, require a dedicated focus of leading imaging centers currently involved in high field imaging and those individuals interested in exploring and demonstrating its potential to improve patient outcomes.

With leadership from the University of Minnesota Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, and support from the University of Minnesota’s CTSA hub, the UMN Clinical and Translational Science Institute, this meeting endeavors to bring together clinicians and scientists from within the national CTSA network to discuss these topics. The goals of the meeting are three-fold:

  1. Identify the promise of ultra-high field MRI at addressing unmet clinical needs.
  2. Highlight the current and future technologies required to fully exploit 7T in addressing these applications.
  3. Begin to discuss the cost-benefit question, “Will the availability of 7T improve clinical outcomes?”.

This meeting will appeal to clinical investigators who currently use or anticipate using ultra-high field imaging in their clinical practice, individuals with interests in clinical application of ultra-high field imaging, and early career investigators with a dual interest in ultra-high field imaging and the management of a particular clinical problem.
