Events for this day will feature a variety of field-based activities to provide hands-on AIS learning opportunities and highlight local management efforts.
- Bimijiwan Recreation Area (formerly Knutson Dam): hands-on plant ID and AIS surveillance workshop with AIS Detectors and DNR experts. This mini-workshop will focus on identifying starry stonewort from native stoneworts and other invasive plants. Volunteers will also learn about and try rake tosses, eDNA samplers, and other survey methods.
- Moose Lake (Beltrami County): pontoon ride to various sites around the lake to learn about and experience: spiny water flea surveillance methods, rusty crayfish trapping, starry stonewort management using DASH (diver-assisted suction harvesting) systems, and demonstrations by the Itasca County AIS Program and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe (LLBO) on underwater image technology.
