Peer Research Consultant

Duties This is an undergraduate position in the University Libraries and includes training. You will:
- consult one-on-one with undergraduate students to support their library research prepare feedback on research strategies
- help students identify the appropriate research resources (databases, guides, etc.) needed to successfully complete their research assignments
- guide students through the various faculty-sponsored research opportunities available on campus, including locating faculty, investigating past projects, and how to apply
Requirements
- must have successfully completed Writing 1301/1401 (or equivalent) with a B or higher grade
- experience working in a diverse setting
- effective communication skills and interpersonal skills as relevant to working with individuals and small groups in academic support at the University of Minnesota
- be available to work in shifts of 2-4 hours at a time
- acceptance and current enrollment at the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate student
Skills preferred
- ability to work independently
- strong writing and speaking skills
- experience with email communications and Google Docs
AIS Student Library Assistant - Wilson and Music Library

Duties
- The West Bank Access and Information Services (AIS) department oversees a wide range of operations at both Wilson Library and the Music Library, including circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, borrowing privileges & fines, and reference.
- Shelving and pulling library materials
- Performing various collection maintenance activities, such as shifts Searching library databases
- Helping patrons find materials in the open stacks
- Processing deliveries
- Processing incoming returned material
- Basic operation of microfilm scanner, networked printer and copy machines
- Using Alma, the Integrated Library System
- Providing circulation and reference help at service desks
Requirements
- Must be registered at the University of Minnesota for a minimum of 6 credits per semester, not including summer.
Skills preferred
- Basic skills in alphabetical and numerical ordering. Independently troubleshoot and solve problems Attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively.
- Specific guidelines and procedures exist for duties, and all training is provided.
This position will work during the summer and continue into the fall semester.
Student Library Assistant

Duties
Work across all University Libraries in East Bank, West Bank, St Paul, and off-campus locations. Pull items from library collections matching bibliographic descriptions. Assist in the physical processing of materials using the ULibraries system and keep up with paperwork. Work on shifting collections, as well as inventory, packaging, & shipping. Communicate with Operations Supervisor on problem resolution and outcomes. Other unit related tasks and projects as assigned.
Requirements
Must be a current undergrad at the U of M, with the ability to perform essential physical tasks such as pulling, pushing, and lifting, etc. With assistance, must be able to push carts weighing >100 lbs. Should possess basic office skills (filing, alphabetizing, sorting, accurate typing), and have the ability and willingness to work across different campuses and in different library collections.
Skills preferred
Attention to detail, willingness and ability to adapt to changing work environments, ability to work independently, familiarity with library catalog and call number systems.
