Tayari Jones  is one of the most exciting voices in modern fiction. She is a New York Times best-selling author of four novels including the 2018 bestseller An American Marriage, which has received multiple awards including the Women’s Prize for Fiction, Aspen Words Prize, an NAACP Image Award, and has sold over 500,000 copies.

On May 6, Jones will be the first speaker in the newly named Archie Givens Jr. NOMMO* African American Speaker Series. It builds on the work of the Givens Foundation for African American Literature and honors Archie Givens Jr.’s lifelong commitment to African American writers, audiences, and literature—one that finds a lasting legacy in the University of Minnesota Libraries’ Givens Collection of African American Literature while providing a powerful platform for African American cultural leaders.

*NOMMO is a Dogon word meaning “the magic power of the word”
