Organic Chemistry Teaching Assistant Undergraduate/Graduate Application
Overview of Org. Chem. Teaching Assistant Position

Lab TAs are usually 50% time and teach 2 weekly four-hour laboratory sections of 15-18 students each. In addition, lab TAs will grade their student’s coursework, conduct office hours (2/week), and attend weekly TA meetings.  TAs are also responsible for preparing for lab, grading lab reports in a timely manner and keeping an accurate and updated gradebook.

A 50% TA appointment corresponds to 20 hours of teaching related duties per week. Part of these hours are scheduled contact hours (~ 11):

Lab supervision
Office hours
TA meetings/Teaching workshops

The remainder of the 20 hours are unscheduled, "non-contact" hours (~ 9) such as:

Grading lab reports
Entering grades
Preparing for lab
Filling out summary evaluation sheets

TAs are assigned to a morning (8-11:50) afternoon (12:20-4:10pm), or evening (6-9:50pm) lab section.

We are unclear of our needs for teaching assistants at the current time.  We should know more, closer to the end of the semester.

If you have any questions regarding the status of your application, please contact the Organic Head TA, Sofia Ramirez Lopez (ramir476@umn.edu).

IMPORTANT: After completing the application, please submit an electronic copy of your transcript (unofficial is acceptable) to the Head TA. Include any summary evaluation forms if you have taught before.
