Physical Activity and Wellness Research:

Ready Steady

Sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research

Balance and leg-strengthening exercises, as well as walking, are important for health and wellness.

Although these activities are simple and safe, including them in everyday life is challenging-- for so many different reasons

The Ready→Steady Wellness Program is a research project designed to assess different ways to help people to increase and maintain their level of physical activity.

The Purpose of this Research

This research project will compare 4 versions of Ready→Steady. Results will help to determine which components in this program help people include these physical activities in their everyday lives

Volunteer Activities

Volunteers in this research project will be part of a small group (4-6 people) that meets weekly for 90 minutes in a community center in St. Paul or Minneapolis.

Each volunteer will also be asked to meet with a research assistant  at least 4 times for an interview and to observe balance, strength and physical activity:

Volunteers will receive compensation and may keep their personal activity monitor (Fitbit)

If you are at least 70 years old and do not perform balance, strength, and endurance (e.g., walking) activities on a regular basis, you might be able to take part in this program.
