Wrapping up the Trip

We spent our last bit of time in Iceland reflecting on what an incredible experience we've had here and starting to put together connections of everything we've learned.

The Golden Circle

We took off this morning on the Golden Circle; a scenic drive around Iceland. Many sights were included in our drive, such as Mount Hekla, Helping Hands waterfall, Gullfoss Falls, and Thingvelllir National Park.

Adventuring around the Reykjanesaer Peninsula

For our first full day in Iceland we started the day by visiting Power Plant Earth to get a basic understanding of geothermal energy. We then headed out to see various sights, such as volcano, hot spring, and black beach.

Off to Iceland!

Today everyone got up bright and early to embark on the last leg of our trip to Iceland where we visited Reykjavik and the University of Iceland.

Visit to University of Copenhagen

Our visit to the University of Copenhagen included lecture on climate change as well as some free time for a traditional Danish lunch, siteseeing in Copenhagen, and a quick train trip to Sweden.

DONG Energy and Vikings!

We started our morning off with a tour of DONG Energy, Denmark Oil and Natural Gas and spent the afternoon exploring the Viking museum.

University of Southern Denmark and the first night in Copenhagen

After an early rise, we set out for Copenhagen with a few stops along the way, including a Viking church, the city of Odense, a University of Southern Denmark lab, and a Viking fortress.

Free Day in Jutland

Today, we had a free day in Jutland with time at the beach, a visit to a bakery, kite flying, and more.

Road Trip Day

Today, we went on a bus trip to see the sights of Denmark, including a shipwreck, windmills, and the harbor town Skagen.

Vestas and the Highest Point in Denmark

After a very quick bus ride from our flats we arrived at Vestas, a wind energy production company.

Denmark arrival and Nordic Folk Center

After an early morning, we all hopped on a boat to head over to Denmark to start the next part of our adventure, including the Nordic Folk Center where we learned about sustainable practices in Denmark.

Elkem Solar and the last day in Norway

For our last day in Norway we started the day out with a bus ride into Kristiansand to visit Elkem Solar and ended the day with ice cream at the harbor and a walk around town.

Otrakraft

Today we traveled about 3 hours away from the University of Agder to visit the Otrakraft, another hydroelectric power plant.

Statkraft to Grimstad

We started our day with a quick train ride to the Statkraft location in Oslo. Here, we heard about a few different sides of the hydro power plant, including research and design, economics and trading, and their development.

Free Day in Oslo

With our first opportunity for a free day, there was lots to do and lots to explore! People split off into groups and either walked or rented bikes to explore the city.

Oscarsborg Fortress

Today we had our first excursion to learn about Norway's heritage and how a historic battle fortress had so much influence on its history.

From Vik to Oslo

We took off early this morning for an all day bus ride from Vik to Oslo.

Statkraft and Hiking

Today we went on our first site visit to a power plant in Vik, called Statkraft, the main power producing company in the area.

Norwegian National Day

Today, we took a hike up the mountains for some amazing views. After, we joined in on Norwegian National Day celebrations.

Bergen and the Fjord Cruise

After a quick layover in Iceland we arrived in Bergen, Norway this afternoon!
