Graduate School Seminar Series: Collaborative Leadership & Grand Challenges Research
To meet the challenges we are facing as a society, we will need to bring together all available knowledge, skills, and resources. Community engagement is a strategy for bringing together knowledge from the community and knowledge from the university to address issues of shared concern. Join a panel of engaged researchers and their community partners to discuss what it takes to develop strong community-campus collaborations and bring about community and institutional change. As we hear from our panelists, participants will have the opportunity to examine critical dimensions of their own research scholarship, and consider how they might build collaborations with community stakeholders.
Panelists:
Lauren Martin, Director of Research, Urban Research Outreach Engagement Center; “Sex Trading, Trafficking and Community Wellbeing”
Rebecca Shlafer, Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics; “Minnesota Prison Doula Project”
Catherine Solheim, Associate Professor, Department of Family Social Science; “Promoting Economic Well Being in Immigrant Communities”
Moderator:
Sara Axtell, Public Engagement Faculty Development Liaison with the Office for Public Engagement
