Description

Graduate School Seminar Series: Collaborative Leadership & Grand Challenges Research

Project management practices, processes and systems can be adapted to apply to a wide variety of endeavors. Adapting project management concepts to innovation and new technologies presents a unique set of challenges. In this seminar, participants will receive a background in project management practices based on the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). As a framework for project management practices the PMBOK® outlines best practices throughout the lifecycle of a project in 5 project management process groups. This framework can be an effective starting point in managing projects involving discovery and development efforts. Through three case studies participants will hear examples of the strengths, weaknesses and nuances of project management practices in new product development. The case studies will highlight the usefulness of project management in achieving success.
