Are you interested in providing training to improve the skills of faculty and staff supervisors, but not sure where to start?

Do you want to go beyond the basics?

Are you overwhelmed with the abundance of frameworks, approaches and vendors and want to know what really works at the University?

If you answered YES to one or more of these questions, then the Starter Kits might be for you.

What are Starter Kits?

Training materials that are based on the University of Minnesota Supervisory Development Course. Starter Kits will help guide the discussion and application of supervisory best practices, tools and strategies that are relevant for faculty and staff supervisors in your unit. • Customizable slide decks with facilitator notes, embedded resources and suggestions for tailoring to a local unit /department
  • Detailed facilitator guides, outlining pre-work, facilitation suggestions and opportunities for customization

  • Selecting a format: share and discuss a concept, hold a group discussion of a video, guide or an article or design a skill-building role play - regardless of your choice, the Starter Kit will help you prepare. Can also be used to add and/or enhance your current training
  • Assigning pre-work ahead of time, then use in-person time for discussion and practice to maximize learning and skill-building. Leverage the supervising.umn.edu materials that contain short videos (under 5 minutes), webinar recordings, podcasts, PDF Quick Guides, quizzes and more.
