UMGC data at MSI

SURFS

Starting in October 2021 the Genomics Center is delivering data for UMN customers with MSI accounts to MSI's Shared User Resource Facility Storage (SURFS). Delivered data is located in the "data_delivery" folder in your group's folder on MSI's primary filesystem (/home/GROUPNAME/data_delivery/umgc). MSI does not charge for SURFS storage costs, but files expire and are removed one year after they've been delivered. Files should be copied to other MSI storage locations such as Tier2, Tier3, or your group's "shared" folder before they expire. The data_delivery folder contains folders for the four most recent quarters of the calendar in order to make it easier to identify files that are close to expiration. The MSI website has more information about SURFS and copying expiring data.

Datarelease

Prior to October 2021 data was delivered to the data_release folder in your group's home directory. There is no charge for storage costs, but files expire and are removed five years after they've been delivered. Data should be copied to other MSI storage locations such as Tier2, Tier3, or your groups "shared" folder before it expires. Instructions for accessing data in your datarelease folder are available here: datarelease help

SURFS data access

sFTP/SCP access

To download data using a sFTP/SCP file transfer client such as WinSCP, FileZilla, or Cyberduck, connect to the server mesabi.msi.umn.edu with your UMN InternetID. You will be in your user account's home directory after logging in. Navigate up a folder to your group home directory, then to the surfs folder (/home/GROUPNAME/data_delivery/umgc). You will find folders organized by calendar quarter containing your datasets.
Detailed instructions: WinSCP FileZilla

Web browser access

To view analysis reports and download data using your web browser, visit ondemand.msi.umn.edu. You will be prompted to log in with your InternetID. If you are off-campus you will need to first connect to the UMN VPN to be able to access the website.

Globus

Globus is a fasta and robust data transfer service and is a great tool for moving large amounts of data and sharing data with collaborators. Refer to the MSI website for Globus documentation

Galaxy access

If you would like a dataset available in your MSI galaxy space, please forward the release email to help@msi.umn.edu changing the subject to 'Galaxy: link NGS data to Data Library'. Be sure to specify which MSI user accounts should have Galaxy access.
