Wireless Access

UMD has 3 wireless service options available:

  1. eduroam: secure WiFi access for current students, faculty and staff, for all University and personal computers and devices
  2. UofM-Guest: WiFi access for non-University guests.
  3. UofM-IoT: WiFi access for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as gaming consoles and Smart TVs.

1. eduroam

eduroam (education roaming) provides a secure, encrypted connection between your device and the wireless access point. eduroam is the secure WiFi access for current University students, faculty and staff. Additionally, eduroam allows you to use your UMD WiFi authentication at any eduroam hotspot in the world and join instantly and securely.

Full instructions for connecting to the eduroam network, as well as troubleshooting steps are available. If you are unable to connect to eduroam manually, you may need to use the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool.

2. UofM-Guest

UofM-Guest is the preferred network for guests at the University of Minnesota, including alumni and former University employees.

UofM-Guest connection instructions are available.

3. UofM-IoT

UofM-IoT is the network reserved for devices such as gaming consoles or Smart TVs that are not able to connect to eduroam.

UofM-IoT network registration instructions are available.
