Unique communities need unique approaches to COVID-19 vaccine confidence that honor their priorities, values and the expertise of community leaders. Now, there are tools to help you do just that.
The National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants and Migrants (NRC-RIM) worked with IDEO.org, a nonprofit design studio, to build vaccination campaigns in genuine partnership with specific RIM communities. This meant working alongside community leaders to create and disseminate their messaging campaigns. With NRC-RIM’s resources, you can do the same!
Speakers
Syreeta Wilkins, NRC-RIM
Syreeta is the communications strategist for the National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants and Migrants (NRC-RIM), where she leads the communications efforts for the center as well as guides the creation and dissemination of health communications materials.
She has more than a decade of experience in strategic communications, specializing in internal communications, electronic media, and diverse and multilingual communities. Before joining the team at NRC-RIM, she led communications for K-12 public schools, most recently focusing on crisis communications and other efforts related to her school district's COVID-19 response.
Syreeta holds a master's degree in linguistics from New York University, where she explored socioeconomic influences on Spanish-speaking immigrants' speech patterns. She holds a bachelor's degree from Macalester College.
Ridhi Arun, IDEO.org
As Senior Program Coordinator, Ridhi supports various health equity-related projects and programs at IDEO.org. Bringing her experience and knack for program management, and passion for refugee health and rights, Ridhi currently supports the programmatic work to develop community-led messaging for refugee, immigrant and migrant communities related to COVID-19.
She previously worked with a non-profit in Berkeley, California called Partnerships for Trauma Recovery, which provides mental health services for refugees and asylum-seekers who have resettled in the Bay Area, where she developed a monitoring and evaluation study for their clinic. Much of her previous work centers around refugee health, mental health, and the intersection of health and human rights.
Ridhi graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelor of science in neuroscience, and the University of California, San Francisco with a master of science in global health sciences.
Courtney Chang, IDEO.org
Courtney is a Senior Program Lead at IDEO.org, currently leading work to increase COVID-19 vaccine confidence amongst refugee, immigrants, and migrants in the U.S. In her 4.5 years at IDEO.org she's led many other global and domestic health projects including work to increase access to contraception for girls in rural Ethiopia, launch a network of youth-friendly pharmacies in the DRC, and increase the uptake of HIV services among Zimbabwe’s LGBTQ community.
Prior to joining IDEO.org, Courtney advanced policy and partnerships at PEPFAR, the U.S. government’s global HIV/AIDS initiative. She has also consulted for USAID, Jhpiego, and Vestergaard on tuberculosis, maternal health, and clean water initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa. Courtney holds a BS in International Health from Georgetown University and an MBA/MPH from Johns Hopkins University.
