Robson Inks Deal with Minnesota Wild

3/18/2019 1:49:00 PM | Men's Hockey

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey junior goaltender Mat Robson has signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild, the organization announced on Monday, as Robson foregoes his final year of eligibility with the University of Minnesota.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Robson leaves the Maroon & Gold with a 21-17-5 all-time record while setting a new school career save percentage record at .924. The junior also ranks seventh in program history with a career goals against average of 2.57.

In his final year with the Gophers, Robson went 21-17-5 with a .921 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.78. A finalist for Big Ten Goaltender of the Year, Robson currently leads the Big Ten with 950 saves this season while he allowed two goals or fewer in 15 of his 31 starts this season including each of his final five appearances for the Maroon & Gold.

Robson joined Minnesota for the 2017-18 season after leading the Penticton Vees to the 2017 BCHL Fred Page Cup as a BCHL First Team All-Star. He became eligible midway through the season and went on to post a 7-5-1 record in 14 games for the Gophers with a .933 save percentage – a statistic that would have set a new single-season school record (Robson fell one game short of the 15-game requirement).

The first player in Gopher Hockey history to wear No. 40, Robson will wear No. 42 with the Minnesota Wild.
