4-H Day Camps Benton 2023

4-H STEM Day Camps. Exciting things are planned for K-6!! You should be ready to discover three different exciting topics this summer as they become investigators and detectives, doing experiments, projects, crafts and some guaranteed messy fun, while making new friends and building relationships with our camp counselors and staff.

Three science discovery topics/themes for this year include:

Edible Science & Experiments (June 6 & 8) Is there slime I can eat? Can I eat playdough?  Is it true that I can create a stained glass window that I could actually eat? The answer is yes to all of these questions. Discover how density affects your foods, explore chemical reactions and learn about hydrolysis.  You will make mountains, grow sugar crystals, taste fizzy sherbet and more. Come learn about how edible science can be both fun and messy through our cool hands-on experiments and projects, while mixing together ingredients you never thought would taste so good.

Blast Off in Aerospace (June 13 & 15) Have you worked with drones? Made rockets? Blasted them off? Created paper airplanes? Have you ever made a paper helicopter? At this camp, you will soar to new heights as you create the different rockets and planes we have planned for you. You will make a hovercraft helicopter, whirly bird helicopter, stomp rockets, straw rockets, tumble wing gliders and more. You will get to try flying a drone on a simulator and try a balloon powered car.

Reptiles & Raptors (June 20 & 22) First time ever, this camp will feature the Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota. The center will bring an owl, hawk, falcon and in Foley there will be a Bald Eagle. You will find out why they are called raptors and what makes them stand out amongst birds. We also have a reptile expert coming and you will get up close and personal with Ms. Violet the Boa, Mr. Nordeast the Ball Python and Ms. Vizzy the Bearded Dragon. Plus, you will make your own accordion snake and owl to bring home. You don’t want to miss this camp!
