The National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service (NCMNPS) held a hearing on potential policies to encourage or require military, national, and public service from all Americans. In the afternoon session, panelists discussed whether women should be required to register for the Selective Service, or the military draft. Speakers included former Army Judge Advocate General Lieutenant General Flora Darpino (Retired) and former Marine Corps Major Katelyn van Dam. Following remarks by the witnesses, commissioners heard comments from the public.

In 2017, Congress created NCMNPS to review the selective service system and whether women should be required to register as all 18-25 year old males are required to do so. They also are charged with suggesting ways to create a universal expectation of national military, national, or public service. close
