Research & Creative Scholarship Showcase 2020!
Friday, February 7, 9 - 11 am in the Rapson Hall Courtyard
Submission Deadline for participation: January 28, 2020
This is an opportunity for you to showcase your work to potential collaborators and leaders from across the University and the local community.  
Learn more, provide input  and to register to present your work. We are inviting the Deans of Research from all University of Minnesota Colleges, and encouraging them to share the invitation with researchers in their colleges. Contact Bonnie Jean to recommend invitees, or provide names in the "Who to invite" field on this registration form


UMN Driven to Discover ("D2D") State Fair Research Facility: Applications Now Open
Deadline January 21st!
2020 MN State Fair - The Research Opportunity Announcement for conducting studies at the Driven to Discover Research Facility the 2020 State Fair is open! Dr. Griffin and her team had a very successful time at the 2019 fair. Let's maintain a College of Design presence at the Minnesota State Fair by taking advantage of this splendid opportunity every year!

Call for proposals for Collaborative Student Projects 
Faculty!  If you are in communication with CDes students this month, let them know about this opportunity. It is for any CDes students, including undergrads! 
The College has three $1,500 grants available to support projects among graduate and/or undergraduate students, collaborating across at least two different disciplines to produce two- or three-dimensional imagery. Projects should explore ways of visually representing complex ideas in a way that broad audiences can understand them. Deadline for submissions is January 24th. Health in Aging Policy Fellowship Opportunity 
Call for 2020 applicants now open!
Submission deadline: April 15, 2020
This program has a broad interdisciplinary focus, so let's get some design professionals into the mix! Fellowship cohorts have included physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, food scientists, city planners, healthcare administrators, epidemiologists, economists, and lawyers from academic and practice settings, spanning career stages from newly minted PhDs to senior professors and community leaders. If you have something to offer, apply! Notification of finalists to be interviewed: Mid-May; Interviews and selection of Fellows: Mid-June; Fellowship begins October 2020

National Endowment for the Arts FY 2020 FAQ

Growing Convergence Research Program Solicitation
Deadline February 3, 2020
Growing Convergence Research (GCR) at the National Science Foundation was identified as one of 10 Big Ideas. Convergence research is a means for solving vexing research problems, in particular, complex problems focusing on societal needs. It entails integrating knowledge, methods, and expertise from different disciplines and forming novel frameworks to catalyze scientific discovery and innovation. The College of Design sponsored a grant-writing workshop tailored to this NSF Program Solicitation on September 6th. See Research Resources website to access materials from the workshop.

International Travel Grants are funded by the University of Minnesota central administration to support the internationalization of the University on all campuses through research, teaching, and outreach.  Graduate Students may also apply.

IAS-Faculty Residential Fellows
Each year up to twelve University of Minnesota faculty members are selected as Residential Fellows.

Center for Educational Innovation - Teaching Innovation Grant
Grants for up to $1,000 available to support innovative teaching and learning across the University.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) 
Be a mentor!  UROP awards fund students to do research and creative activities with faculty. Faculty, please complete this CDes UROP Projects Collection Form  so we can promote your opportunities to students. You can complete this form any time, and for as you have ideas to explore undergraduate research help with. The next deadline for applications is February 24, 2020 for Summer or Fall 2020 projects and July 6 for Fall 2020 projects. 

Meeting your volunteer needs: University Retirees Volunteer Center
When assessing your department’s needs for short-term or ongoing volunteer tasks—from participating in research studies to providing assistance during campus events—consider taking advantage of the skills and experience available from the University Retirees Volunteer Center’s more than 450-person volunteer registry.
