Description

Learn how Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) can improve the quality and safety of your fruits and vegetables and help you access new markets.

GAPs training is for farm owners, workers and gardeners who grow, harvest and pack fresh vegetables for sale to all markets, including farmers markets, CSA, retail, schools, restaurants, or who donate produce to others. Trainers will include experienced produce farmers and UMN Extension staff and will cover all aspects of on-farm food safety.

Introduction to produce safety, FSMA, and GAP audits
Worker health, hygiene, handwashing
Water and water quality, irrigation, water testing
Soil amendments, manure, compost
Wildlife and domesticated animals
Harvest, packhouse design, cleaning/sanitizing and pest control
Food safety plans and recordkeeping
