Join scientist Dr. Sam Potter for a crash course in climate science! Over the course of two days (Saturday February 19th and Saturday February 26th), we will cover the science of global warming in depth, with a focus on Minnesota. The class is an introduction to the broad topic of climate change science that will allow people of any education level to more comfortably engage with complex climate topics. Topics covered: the physics of global warming, evidence for human causes, past climate changes, climate models, projected future impacts to Minnesota and the world, feasibility of carbon dioxide removal and geoengineering technologies, and Minnesota's unique challenges on a pathway to a zero greenhouse gas economy. The class format will be primarily be lecture except for the final section, which will have group work and discussion. Classes will take place in-person at Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (2660 Fawn Lake Drive NE, East Bethel MN), and will follow U of MN COVID guidelines which currently require masking while indoors.
