Accessing Linux Files from Windows or Mac (via SMB)

Use these instructions to access files in your Linux/Unix home folders or shared folders from a Windows or Macintosh computer. You access these folders via the server named smb.cla.umn.edu.

Please Note

  • A VPN connection is required if connecting from off campus or guest wireless
  • In CLA your Linux/Unix server username is the same as your x500 Internet ID.
  • The old name for smb.cla.umn.edu was thalia.cla.umn.edu.  The thalia name will continue to work for many years but as you set up new connections, please use the smb.cla.umn.edu name.
