Check-In Meeting Dates:
Second & Fourth Thursdays
Time:
1:00–2:00 p.m.
The Graduate Program Coordinator’s Network (GPCN) supports Graduate Program Coordinators (GPCS) at the University of Minnesota by sharing best practices and knowledge among our community of practice.
The GPCN email address and Google Group, gpc@umn.edu, serve as tools for the Network to use in its work supporting GPCs. The Network uses these tools to announce meetings and other Network business.
The GPCN occasionally forwards emails from other senders to all members of the GPCN.
To preserve its primary function of supporting GPCs in their work, these forwards must be 1) relevant to the work of GPCs and/or their professional development and 2) GPCs should be the end-users of the information provided. We do not forward messages to GPCs to be forwarded to their students or faculty.
Examples of messages likely to be approved for forwarding:
A central University office (ISSS, Grad School Admissions, GSSP, etc.) announces information about work commonly done by most GPCs.
Annual reminders of deadlines/policies/practices of work done by most GPCs.
Announcements of open positions for GPCs or GPC-like staff, or positions representing a career progression for GPCs.
Examples of messages unlikely to be approved for forwarding:
Announcements of new courses (students are the end users, not GPCs)
Announcements of events aimed at students or faculty
Reminders of student deadlines for processes not involving GPCs directly (financial aid, registration, parking contracts, etc.). Announcements of deadlines for fellowships requiring graduate program letters of support are likely appropriate, as GPCs are involved in the process.
Announcements/information about events deemed to be of interest to a small subset of GPCs, e.g. Anthropology GPAS info session, College of Pharmacy admissions committee.
Questions about the policy may be directed to the GPCN Leadership team at gpcnlead@umn.edu.
Policy formally adopted October 2023.
