Stories matter. Especially those stories not often told, like the stories of the over 30 million Americans diagnosed with a rare disease.

Here at the University of Minnesota, we want to tell those stories. This fall, the College of Pharmacy's Center for Orphan Drug Research and College of Liberal Art’s Theater Arts and Dance Department—in collaboration with community members diagnosed with rare diseases—will produce a play examining the challenges faced by those living with rare disorders. The goal of RARE: Stories of dis-ease is to help a state-wide audience develop a greater awareness of and a deeper appreciation for the medical, economic, and social challenges facing people with rare diseases. And you can help.

Powered by your generosity, we hope to raise the $3,000 necessary to record and share this play beyond the theater stage. Did you know that over 7,000 diseases are considered rare, affecting one in ten Americans and their families who face few available effective treatments? Behind every one of those rare diseases are millions of individuals with a story all their own. With a professional recording, we could tell these stories of people with rare diseases to a national audience, inspiring action to find the cures we need.

But we need your help.. Your gift, of any size, will give voice to the stories of rare disease that too often go untold. Thank you for your generosity!
