GPAS audit

Graduate faculty and staff use the GPAS audit, or advisement report, to view a student’s real-time progress toward degree requirements. There are two ways to view a student’s audit, depending on what action you need to take and how you want to look at the requirements. One way is by going to the audit through the Academic Requirements view, and the other way is by going to the Plan by My Requirements view. You can access both in Advisor Center within MyU.

Academic Requirements

The GPAS audit view within Academic Requirements displays only complete and incomplete requirements for a student’s program. It does not display a student's planned courses. In most cases, this audit is the recommended way to initiate exceptions for students. The Graduate Education Records Team (GERT) also uses a similar view to approve students for graduation (degree clearance).

You can access the audit in Academic Requirements with the following path:

  1. Log into MyU and selects Key Links.
  2. Go to Advisor Center.
  3. Select View data for other students if advisees do not appear.
  4. Enter a student ID and click Search.
  5. In the dropdown under Academics, select Academic Requirements.
  6. Finally, click the arrows to launch the degree audit within Academic Requirements.

Plan by My Requirements

The GPAS audit view within Plan by My Requirements displays planned courses as well as complete and incomplete requirements for a student’s program. You can also use this audit to initiate GPAS exceptions, but it is recommended that staff and faculty go through Academic Requirements instead. Note that if your program allows students to initiate GPAS exceptions, students can only use Plan by My Requirements.

You can access the audit in Plan by My Requirements with the following path:

  1. Log into MyU and select Key Links.
  2. Go to Advisor Center.
  3. Select View data for other students if advisees do not appear.
  4. Enter a student ID and click Search.
  5. Under Academics, click on the GPAS link.
  6. In the pop-up box, select Plan by My Requirements under the University of Minnesota Coursework section.
