2018 Weisguide Class Application
Weisman Art Museum Tour Guides, or "Weisguides," are community volunteers dedicated to teaching and sharing the Weisman's collection and philosophy to the public. Weisguides provide guided learning experiences through art from across cultures and time periods that engage, inspire and enrich the lives of diverse audiences.
This program is flexible, fun and essential to our museum's mission. As a Weisguide, you will learn about art, visual culture, and history in an inspiring yet inviting atmosphere.
CLASS DETAILS: The next training class will start Fall 2018. Classes are held on Fridays, from 1-3pm.
Applicants will be selected based on their interest in art and WAM, completion of an application and interview with the WAM Education Department, and a background check by the University of Minnesota. An appreciation of art and an enjoyment of people is a necessity, however an art background is not required. We look for those who are enthusiastic, creative, and self motivated. We strive for diverse interests and backgrounds, all are welcomed!
The required basic training course trains volunteers to conduct inquiry-based, participatory tours of the museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Assignments include readings, oral presentations, and several hours of preparation outside of class.
After the initial basic training course, guides are expected to participate in monthly trainings held on Tuesdays from 5:30-8pm.
